High above the town is the castle of Wernigerode, and offers great views over the countryside and the Harz landcape up untill the Brocken. The city centreis a closed area with many original architectural as well as many shopping andstrolling opportunities. Wernigerode is the starting point of the Harz narrowgauge railway for the journey in the Harz National Park.
